This trend follows similar patterns to the corresponding style in architecture: sharp edges, bold shapes and strong contrasts. Everything is bold, large and condensed. It looks loud and hard.
It is associated with functionalism after the Second World War, which had its beginnings in the 50s and 60s and reached its peak in the late 60s and 70s. At the same time, the hippie movement emerged as a counter-movement.
At its core, it was about creating something that would theoretically last forever with minimal effort and cost. This pragmatic approach was also reflected in the design.
Many elements were based on the ideas of the Bauhaus, with concrete playing a central stylistic role. An outstanding example of this is the Olivetti City in northern Italy.
