This style has its origins in hippie design and its basic layout is strongly oriented towards Art Nouveau. Typographically, fonts reminiscent of the hippie era, Art Nouveau and Art Deco are used, supplemented by many handwritten elements.
Characteristic are high color contrasts with a color palette reminiscent of Pop Art, but often desaturated. The style shows surreal-looking scenarios with a strong focus on illustrations and illustrative typography.
Its increased emergence since the end of the 1960s is closely linked to cultural developments and the discovery of LSD, which further reinforced the psychedelic and experimental aesthetic.
